Our Formation Story
Founded in 2007 as a Public Charitable Trust, the SOSVA Training and Promotion Institute (STAPI) was established to strengthen the capacity and foster the leadership within Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on diverse issues. The organization collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders at the national, state, and district levels to create impactful change. STAPI was envisioned by the Society for Service to Voluntary Agencies (SOSVA) as an extension of their pioneering work, providing critical support and infrastructure to voluntary organizations.
Over the years, STAPI has continuously adapted its programs to address emerging challenges and the evolving needs of the communities it serves. By staying attuned to socio-economic shifts, the organization has expanded its focus to include areas such as sustainable livelihoods, women’s empowerment, community health, and organization development (OD) programs. These OD programs are designed to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs), ensuring they have the tools, knowledge, and systems to effectively address the issues facing their communities. Through its dynamic and holistic approach, STAPI has built a reputation as a trusted partner in capacity-building and social development. Its collaborations with national and international organizations have enabled it to implement impactful training programs and community-based projects that drive long-term positive change. Today, STAPI stands as a recognized leader in supporting the growth and development of CSOs, CBOs, and other key stakeholders across various sectors.

STAPI Today
For over two decades, STAPI has been dedicated to nurturing new leadership and strengthening organizations, driving positive civic actions at the local, regional, and national levels. Through its comprehensive approach, STAPI has played a key role in the development of civil society, creating lasting impact across Maharashtra.
Today, STAPI is supported by a skilled and committed team and has built strong relationships with numerous networks and organizations throughout the state. The leadership is guided by the Founder Managing Trustee and Board, while day-to-day operations are managed by a core team, collaborating on various projects across Maharashtra to ensure effective program delivery.
STAPI operates with a two-layer governance structure for clear oversight and accountability. Each program has its own operational guidelines, supervised by a governing council. The second layer of governance comes from the STAPI Board of Trustees and the program management team, which includes various program leads overseeing implementation and impact. The program management team also handles administrative tasks, program development, and fundraising, ensuring that STAPI's initiatives are sustainable and impactful.
Beyond its core programs, STAPI also publishes resources to support voluntary organizations, promoting good governance practices and transparency. STAPI is also a key player in building connections and partnerships at the district level, acting as a nodal agency or "Mother NGO." Through its extensive network, STAPI collaborates with various NGOs, government organizations, and stakeholders at the local, district, state, and national levels to drive social change and build a sustainable future for the communities it serves.
