COMMUNITY-BASED MONITORING
(In collaboration with National Health Mission, 2017 – 2020)
&
COMMUNITY ACTION FOR HEALTH
(In collaboration with National Health Mission, 2021 – 2023 & April 2023 – July 2023)

Community Served  

Between 2017-2020

Under this health initiative quality health care was provided to the underprivileged population living in rural areas. Service seekers from 226 villages availed health services from 28 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), 4 Rural Hospitals, 2 Sub District Hospitals, and 4 District Hospitals. 
 
Between 2021-2023

During this period service seeker from 2880 villages availed health services from 101 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), 614 Sub-Centres, 10 Rural Hospitals, 7 Sub District Hospitals, and 4 District Hospitals. 
 
Objectives

  •  To facilitate increased access and utilisation of quality health service in rural areas by strengthening the processes and strategies of Community Based Planning and Monitoring on the ground.
  • To strengthen the Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Committees.  

Activities

Development of community-based planning and monitoring processes; strategies and interventions with regard to public health infrastructure of Ahmednagar, Amravati, Chandrapur, and Raigad districts of Maharashtra.     
 
Main Outcome

  • Development of community-based planning and monitoring processes; strategies and interventions with regard to public health facilities and services involving community participation.
  • Initiated and mainstreamed activities like Jansamvad, village health sanitation and nutrition committees, and strengthening of Primary Health Care /Sub Centre/ Health and Wellness Level Committees that led to participatory monitoring.
  • Jansamvad provided an effective and productive public platform for better coordination between the service providers, beneficiaries, and stakeholders.
  • Empowering the local communities to address and resolve the local issues at the community level through the support of local stakeholders with enhanced accountability and ownership.

PROJECT MAYA: AFTERCARE SERVICES FOR YOUNG ADULT ORPHANS
Period: (May 2022- April 2023 & May 2023 – February 2024)
Community Served

Young Adult Orphans (YAOs) between the age group of 18-25 from the Palghar District of Maharashtra.

Objectives  

  • Mainstreaming, reintegration, and restoration of young adult orphans in society.
  • Equip YAOs with vocational skills/education from the point of view of employability and entrepreneurship.  

Activities     

  • Survey of the eligible persons in Child Care Institutions in Palghar District.
  • Meetings with the Women and Child Development officials at the State, District, and Block Level of Palghar District.
  • Providing support for housing facilities to YAOs.
  • Providing food and basic needs to YAOs,
  • Providing skills and vocational training for employability to YAOs.
  • Providing social skills, independent living skills, and counseling to YAOs.
  • Facilitating and arranging documents of identity, and eligibility to avail benefits by YAOs.

Main Outcome

  • The skill training provided to YAOs helps them to become financially independent. As a result, they are able to take care of their livelihood even after the closure of the project.
  • YAOs have the requisite skills and information to lead independent living.
  • Now YAOs are independent and confident and are able to lead a respectable life in society. 

Maharashtra Alliance for Young Adults
(In collaboration with UPS India Foundation, 2017-2018 & 2018-2019)
 
Community Served

Children in the age group of 14-17 from the Children Care Homes/Observation Homes/After Care Homes/ Special Homes.

Objectives

  • Mainstreaming, reintegration, and restoration of young adult orphans in society.
  • Equip YAOs with vocational skills/education from the point of view of employability and entrepreneurship.  
     Activities     
  • Baseline Survey of 49 Children Care Homes/Observation Homes/After Care Homes/ Special Homes.
  • Pre & Post Counseling Sessions and Aptitude Tests of 290 YAOs of  8 Child Care Institutions in Pune.
     

Main Outcome

  • Data revalidation of   49 Children Homes, Observation Homes, and After Care Homes in Pune helped in developing the understanding of common and specific issues and challenges in the rehabilitation /restoration and reintegration of YAOs in Pune.  
  • Selection for vocational skills training based on the aptitude test of YAOs.
  • Intensive interactions with 260 YAOs in Pune from Child Care Homes/After Care and Observation Homes in connection to career counseling.
  • Vocational skills training enabled YAOs in acquiring the necessary vocational skills towards self-reliance, community acceptance, and restoration of self-respect. 

Data collection and data revalidation of 79 children of observation homes in Mumbai/ Mumbai Suburb and Thane Districts In collaboration with Bombay Community Public Trust, 2014-2015.

Objectives

  • To understand common and specific issues and challenges in the rehabilitation/restoration and reintegration of YAOs from the Thane District of Maharashtra.

Activities

  • Data collection and data revalidation of 79 Children from Observation Homes in Mumbai/ Mumbai Suburb and Thane Districts.

Main Outcome

  • Need assessment highlighted areas that need to be covered during training and it helped to conceptualise and develop content for the training.
  • The training helped us to address common and specific issues and challenges related to the rehabilitation /restoration and reintegration of YAOs in the Thane District of Maharashtra.

Objectives      

  • To understand common and specific issues and challenges in the rehabilitation/restoration and reintegration of YAOsfrom the Thane District of Maharashtra. 

Activities

Consultation and meeting with stakeholders to understand and assess the magnitude of Orphan and Destitute Children across Maharashtra. 

Main Outcome 

  • The District Consultation Meetings helped us in understanding the district-specific issues and challenges of YAOs in 26 districts of Maharashtra. 

Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC)

In collaboration with U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)
 
Community Served  

  • Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), key population-led organizations, and people living with HIV (PLHIV) networks through 14 CSOs, CBOs  & PLHIV Networks from the Thane and Pune districts of Maharashtra.
    Objectives     
  • EpiC in India aims to strengthen the organizational capacities of local community-based organizations (CBOs), key population -led organizations, and people living with HIV (PLHIV) networks to effectively manage and implement HIV programs and support resource mobilization to enable them to contribute to HIV response in their respective districts and states on a sustained basis.

Activities       

The key activities include:

  • Organization assessment
  • Capacity development plan
  • Mentoring and handholding support for the organizational development
  • Organise thematic workshops on various issues and areas covered during the needs assessment
  • Development of communication material for the partner NGOs as a part of the resource mobilization preparedness. 

Main Outcome

STAPI as a lead partner for EpiC Project on organizational development and technical assistance for 14 civil society organizations (9 from Thane and 5 from Pune) enhanced the capacities of partner NGOs in two PEPFAR priority districts of Maharashtra, namely Thane and Pune with the support of FHI 360.

PEPFAR America Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Project

Key population (KPs) and people living with HIV (PLHIV) through collaboration with four PLHIV networks and NGOs /CBO’s working with key populations in Non-PEPFAR Satara, Sangli Kolhapur and Solapur districts of Maharashtra.

Objectives     

To address vaccine hesitancy and promote access to COVID‐19 vaccines and support safe and uninterrupted access to key populations and PLHIVs from the Non-PEPFAR Satara Sangli Kolhapur and Solapur districts of Maharashtra.
 
Activities        

  • Conduct IEC/BCC sessions for Community Champions of NGOs working with key populations and PLHIVs for promoting  uninterrupted access  to  COVID‐19 vaccines
  • Conduct COVID-19 vaccination camps for KP’s and PLHIVs
  • Development of Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) material for COVID-19 vaccination for PLHIV and KP’s  

Main Outcome

  • COVID-19 vaccination of 5499 PLHIVs and KPs  (3596 through camps and 1903 through helpdesks)
  • First Dose- 563; Second Dose – 2051 and Precautionary Dose – 2885   as per the inclusion criteria approved by USAID

National  Jal Jivan Mission ‐ Har Ghar Nalse Jal in 60 villages (54 Gram Panchayats (GP) of Shirur Block of Pune District (August 2021- July 2023)

Worked as a support agency for the implementation of the Jal Jivan Mission in 60 villages of Shirur Block, Pune District

Objective   

  • Supply of safe and secured drinking water in 60 villages of Shirur Block, Pune District.
    Activities
  • Conduct field-level activities  to ensure a safe and secured drinking water supply
  • Capacity building of local population for strengthening of water sources
  • Ensure uninterrupted safe and secured drinking water supply at Aagnawadi’s and Schools
  • Ensure cost-effective operation and maintenance in connection to the water supply
  • Promote the timely contribution of water tax for greater accountability and ownership     

Main Outcome

  • Data collection of 60 villages
  • Formation of 58 VHSNCs (Village Health Sanitation Nutrition Committees)
  • Capacity building of  800 SHG women and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) Members from 23 villages on various aspects of water such as rainwater harvesting, water quality, water‐borne disease, water saving, water handling, source of drinking water and sustainability aspects
  • Capacity building of 120 persons in plumbing, electricians, and brick layers for cost-effective operation and maintenance

Project Phoenix (January 2022 – MARCH 2023) 

Community Served 

COVID 19 affected Families (where the bread earner have been lost)  from Shahapur Murbad of Thane District, Shirur Block of Pune District and Semi Urban areas of Pune, Pimpari Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Thane and Sangali.
 
Objectives     

  • To understand  and study the  socio-economic challenges of the affected families
  • To assess and understand the prioritization of  support areas based on the data collection and needs assessment
  • To explore the various avenues and opportunities for victim-affected families to be self-independent both socially and economically.

Activities    

  • Data Collection of 185 families from Shahapur Murbad of Thane District, Shirur Block of Pune District, and Semi Urban areas of Pune, Pimpari Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Thane and Sangali
  • Financial support to the affected families in the areas of education, skill training, and livelihood opportunities for the women
  • Follow-up and mentoring  visits to the affected families

Main Outcome

  • Financial support for the education of children who have lost their parents due to COVID-19 to continue their education  
  • Provided skill-based training for self-employment and  access to job opportunity
  • Follow-up visits and mentoring support to boost the morale and confidence of the affected families
  • Facilitation and support to avail various government schemes
  • Financial Support to 188 beneficiaries of 128 households

Integrated Rural Development Project (IRDP)
(January 2022- March 2023)
 
Community Served  

  • Native of Suksale village of Vikramgad Block, District Palghar

Objectives      

  • Integrated and Comprehensive Village Development in the areas of health and other socio-economic development
  • To explore local livelihood opportunities for tribal communities

Activities       

  • Data collection of 781 people covering 182 households in Suksale village
  • Health check-ups and medical consultations of the local population
  • Capacity building of 12 SHG members in  four batches on entrepreneurship development
  • To identify various income generation activities identified such as vegetable cultivation, bamboo products, tailoring, oil extraction, incense sticks making, and papad making, etc.
  • Identification of aspiring micro-entrepreneurs

Main Outcome

  • The household data collection helped in  assessing and understanding the local issues and challenges including the needs assessment
  • Organised 4 health check-up and medical consultation camps for 270 residents
  • Capacity building of 208 SHG members  from 12 self-help groups
  • Various income generation activities were identified such as vegetable cultivation, bamboo products, tailoring, oil extraction, incense sticks making, papad making, etc.
  • 50  aspiring micro-entrepreneurs identified
  • 59 women trained in basic tailoring

  • Safe Secure and sustainable drinking  water supply to the local population in peri-urban; water stressed, water quality affected, and  aquifer  management villages
  • Strengthen Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNCs)

Activities       

  • Community mobilization, development of village water plans, and capacity building of various stakeholders at the village level  through various social mobilization events in 70 priority villages  from 11 blocks of the Pune district 
  • Facilitation to VHSNCs for record-keeping
  • Monitoring of water supply and sanitation initiatives at village and block level 

Main Outcome

  • Safe and secured  drinking water  supply  with active community participation and ownership in different categories of villages like peri-urban; water stressed, water quality affected, and acquifier villages  
  • Enhanced community participation and responsive behavior with greater accountability and ownership at the village level
  • Baseline surveys and participatory rural appraisals helped in activating women’s gram sabhas and special gramsabhas
  • Capacity building on observation of well owners in rainfall measurement and monitoring

Capacity building of women in promotion, formation and nurturing of self-help groups, and entrepreneurship development among SHG members

Empowerment of the fisherman community with a specific focus on health,  education, women empowerment, and   social entitlements in Samata Nagar of Tardobachiwadi of  Shirur block of Pune district.

  • Goatery  and poultry training of tribal women helped in  daily earnings and supplementary  nutritious diet for their children
  • Networking and advocacy with the concerned health officials helped in availing social entitlements by the tribal community
